Eastwind Designs STINGER is a fully aerobatic model designed for standard speed400 direct drive systems. It's a 14 ounce, 30 inch span speedster that's very agile and fast on eight 1100mah HECELLS and an APC 4.7 by 4.7 prop.
Drop in a speed400 sized brushless and this little ship turns into a rocket! Dive down on the field for a low pass and it'll flash by at 160 kilometres per hour powered by a hacker B20 15L. It's almost as fast with a Mini AC1215 in the nose.
STANDARD SETUP
Flight times of almost 7 minutes are routine with a standard 6 volt speed 400 and the 1100mah cells. Use APC's 4.7 by 4.7 prop.
Fifteen minutes of aerobatic flight can be had easily with a 7.2 volt speed 400 and a 1500mah lithium battery pack. A 6 by 4 APC prop works well with this combo.
With the B20 15L brushless 5 minutes are possible with throttle restraint, but frankly this ship grooves so nicely it's hard to pull the throttle back!
NOTE: The Stinger can be flown comfortably in a suitable park setting with a standard speed400 installed, but is far too fast for such a setting when flown with the brushless setup. Brushless power with this airplane should only be used at a suitable club field where there are wide open spaces. It's small and covers a large area in a very short time!
HIGH PERFORMANCE SETUP
For outstanding high performance, we've had amazing results using an e-flite 370 outrunner, an 8 by 6 APC e-prop and a 1700 mah three cell lithum. With these components and an e-flite 20 amp brushless contoller we've attained unlimited vertical with this little airplane.
The stinger now easily equals any glow plane (and in fact beats most of them) in straight up vertical! And it can do this for a full eleven minutes on a 1700 mah Lipo. While not quite as fast as the B20 15L powered version, it's definitely no wimp in the speed department either!
Add a rudder servo to this combination and you have a 30 inch span pattern plane capable of pretty much any manoeuvre.
